Certificates in TESL and TEFL
As Canadians become more mobile than ever before, and as Canada becomes home to more people from around the world, teaching English language is becoming a popular career both in Canada and abroad, and the demand for high quality, well-trained instructors continues to grow.
Crandall University has responded to this demand by creating the TEFL Certificate Program and the TESL Certificate Program, both designed to train future EFL/ESL teachers by introducing them to the theory, methodology, and practical skills they will need in the classroom.
The TESL Program at Crandall is recognized by TESL Canada as meeting the requirements for Professional Certificate Standard One, while the TEFL Program offers the same high-quality instruction but with a more flexible practicum.
Both programs are designed and taught by Graeme Ching (Level 4 Professional Certification from TESL Canada; former owner of Aurora English in central Japan; author of Teaching English: A Practical Guide) and include academic coursework, practical activities and assignments, and a teaching practicum.
Crandall University’s Certificate in TEFL is recommended for those who are planning to teach English language in another country. It includes 150 hours of instruction and a very flexible 25-hour practicum, as well as advice on finding and applying for teaching jobs overseas.
Entrance requirements: Applicants must have completed a minimum of 30 credit-hours at the university level (60 credit hours is strongly recommended), including at least 6 credit hours of English, or have permission from the registrar. Furthermore, students who are not native speakers of English must meet the language proficiency requirements for entrance to B.A. programs at Crandall University.
Certificate requirements: Completion of ED3123 (Teaching English Language I) and ED3133 (Teaching English Language II), with a final grade of B- or higher in each, and completion of ED3130 (TEFL Practicum) with a final grade of Pass.
Crandall University’s Certificate in TESL is recognized by TESL Canada and is recommended for those who are planning to English language in Canada. It includes 150 hours of instruction and 25 hours of supervised practicum.
